On 7th July 2008, Malacca and Georgetown (Penang) were both awarded the World Heritage Site title under the category of Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
They were jointly recognised as the “Historic Cities of the Straits of Malacca” for their living multicultural heritage communities and architectural treasures.
Since then, Georgetown, similar to Malacca, is highly commercialised and there have been even more Points of Interest being established. A visit to Georgetown, and Penang as a whole, can be quite costly for a family.
And so, in this post, I have drawn up a number of attractions to check out, at zero cost to the visitor. This list was compiled with the help of Mr. Logi (Tourism Malaysia Penang Senior Tourism Officer) and Ms. Angeline Chen (Penang Hop-On Hop-Off Sales & Marketing Manager).
This list is arranged in no particular order and is updated accordingly.
