Spotting a tropical garden concept, Padang Restaurant in Beijing which serves a mainly Indonesian cuisine, is believed to be the largest Indonesian restaurant outside of Indonesia.

Owned by a Chinese Muslim by the name of Yusuf Ma, the decoration of this Padang Restaurant was to the tune of ¥10 million, mostly imported from Indonesia.

Opened in December 8, 2012, located on the third floor of Shimao Department Store, this is Yusuf Ma’s first restaurant. He also owns a travel agency in Beijing.

In China, Indonesian restaurants are only available in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing, and this is the only one in Beijing.

At Padang Restaurant, the dishes is as authentic as they could be because about 60% of ingredients are imported from Indonesia, as well as the chefs.

Due to its huge floor space at 2000sq. m., the restaurant has different sections for diners, including six VIP rooms. All in all, it can cater to at least 300 pax in total concurrently.

Led by manager Mdm. Bi Hui Ling and 63 staff members, the restaurant has more than a hundred dishes on the menu.

Two signature dishes are Ikan Bakar Colo Colo (¥158) and Rendang Lembu (¥118). As you can see, their prices are reasonable. Having dined here twice, I would say their prices are mid-range.

Although the restaurant serves mainly walk-in diners who would order from the à la carte menu, they also cater to requests for buffet, with at least 50 pax.

As an added service to customers, free parking is provided. Otherwise, it is ¥20 an hour. Parking, or generally, car ownership, is a costly affair in Beijing.
