This Sungai Lang Homestay in Banting is not a homestay in the true sense of the word. As I understand it, the concept of homestay in a Malay village is to enjoy the hospitality of the host and to participate in the daily activities of the family.
In the homestay context of Sungai Lang, guests are sometimes housed in separate quarters from the host family, at times they are entirely on their own in a separate house.
This isn’t entirely an inconvenient arrangement, especially if the guest is someone like me, who prefers time alone rather than spend it chit chatting with the host family, or even helping around the house.
Unlike the homestay in Sungai Sireh, Tanjung Karang, my host, Othman Johari in Sungai Lang, admitted that there’s nothing much to keep guests occupied here.

Homestay in a Malay village should be interesting and exciting to foreigners, more so during harvesting of durian and other tropical fruits.
