Originally named Putrajaya Convention Centre, since hosting its first conference the 10th Organisation of Islamic Conference in October 2003 shortly after its completion, Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) has seen some changes and not just to its name.
For one, it was previously managed by the Prime Minister’s Department, then handed over to Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPj) in May 2013. Three months later, it was fully privatised, which means that PICC no longer is just open to government functions but also caters to the private sector.
The imposing PICC, the largest convention centre in Malaysia, sits atop Taman Puncak Selatan in Precinct 5. Architectural-wise, it features the shape of the eye of ‘pending perak’ (a silver Malay royal belt buckle).
PICC boasts a state-of-the-art planetarium that can seat 3,000 pax, each with an unobstructed view of the stage. Yet, its most distinctive feature would be the panorama of Putrajaya that it offers from the top floor. In fact, the entrance of PICC directly faces the office of the Prime Minister of Malaysia on the other end of the Seri Gemilang Bridge, 4.3 km away.
