Besides the homestay project (previous post), another income generator for KODESAL is the nearby stingless bee farm. There are about 300 man-made nests in the 2-hectare farm in Kampung Alor Limbat, Marang.
I don’t like bees and even though I know that they are stingless (kelulut), their buzzing still gave me the creeps. Nevertheless, I took the opportunity to try sucking the fresh, pure honey directly from the nest.
The honey here is sweet with a little sourish after taste. Some friends told me that the stingless bee honey that they have tasted elsewhere was totally sweet. As this was my first experience, I don’t know any better.
It is said that stingless bee honey is twice as nutritious as manufactured honey. Its medicinal properties benefit those suffering from gout, sore throat, cough, sinusitis and hemorrhoids. It is also good for the complexion, it seems.
Although I am sure that there are other producers of stingless bee honey, for convenience, I am just going to include the contact details of KODESAL here. It’s also for my own reference.
