Officially opened on 30th November, 2015 by Perak State Executive Councillor-cum-Chairperson for Tourism, Arts, Culture, Communications and Multimedia Dato’ Nolee Ashilin bt. Dato’ Mohd. Radzi, Cititel Express Ipoh is the city’s newest hotel. It is part of IGB Corporation Berhad’s growing stable to Cititel Express Hotels.
Although located just at Ipoh’s Rothman’s Corner, this hotel, suitable for guests who are on business trips or short family vacations, is best for those who do not have their own transport or are lazy to drive around unfamiliar roads.
This is because it is just within walking distance by crossing Jalan Sultan Idris Shah to Ipoh’s famed Old Town. This is a very happening enclave these days, especially during weekends and public holidays. As a local, I’m alerting you, you wouldn’t want to drive your car to the traffic congestion here!
Besides, the hotel provides FREE shuttle service by air-conditioned van to seven popular tourist destinations: Ipoh Railway Station, Ipoh Old Town, Concubine Lane, Dim Sum Street, Ipoh Parade Shopping Mall, Jalan Yau Tet Shin & Jalan Theatre and Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) when it opens this July.
Apart from MAPS, all of these attractions are within walking distance from the hotel and would take up to thirty minutes, depending on your stamina. In fact, as this is a one-way shuttle, you have to make your own way back and walking could be the best option, if a taxi is unavailable. Alternatively, you can try Uber. Sign up HERE and enjoy a free Uber ride worth RM20 (code: EMILY2U).
It is also within walking distance to Kinta River Walk. You can read more about the scenic area HERE.
There are three room categories: Superior Twin, Superior Triple and Deluxe Quad (2 X Queen or 1 Queen + 1 Single). All 210 rooms offer picturesque, yet different, views of Ipoh: Ipoh Padang, Kinta River of Old Town. The Multi-Purpose Hall on the 13th floor (R button on the elevator control panel) looks over the Ipoh Padang.
Standard room amenities include individually controlled air-conditioning, up to 150 movie channels on the 40-inch LED screen smart IPTV (with more than 150 channels), hair dryer and in-room safety box. Some rooms provide a mini bar and ironing board but for those that do not have these facilities, there are ironing station and water dispenser (cold, warm, hot water) on every floor.
In terms of room furnishing, I would say that it is basic but functional. My only peeve was that there are only two power points in my room and both are placed too near to each other by the workstation. The fact that they are fixed so close together limits the usage of a multi-point plug. Besides, it would make more sense to provide at least one power point by the bedside.
By the way, two of the floors are for smokers, so do make a note upon reservation if you are a non-smoker.
Complimentary high-speed WiFi internet connectivity is also offered throughout the building. Good news to international visitors who do not want to waste money on a local SIM or data card.
Many of my female friends are afraid to stay with Cititel Express Ipoh because of parking issue. This is the only building in Ipoh that provides double-deck parking to fight parking woes in the heart of Ipoh Old Town. I went to check out the parking system myself.
Yes, it does look scary for incompetent drivers but the hotel management has assured that there are always staff on duty who can assist with the parking. Just leave your key with the valet or security personnel and it will be taken care of.
As there are only 40+ parking bays within the building, the hotel management has also rented parking space in adjacent properties for the use of guests, especially when functions are being hosted here. So, that’s another issue settled.

Yay, another informative post! This is really useful, so that when I need to go to Ipoh, I don't need to bug my relatives to stay at their place. Lol.
