Dreamville Hostel Kuala Lumpur: Clean, Comfortable, Convenient

Riding the LRT towards Gombak (Kelana Jaya Line) from KL Sentral to Setiawangsa takes only about 25 minutes and a fare of RM2.80. I was here recently to spend a night at Dreamville Hostel Kuala Lumpur, which is just a short walking distance from the Setiawangsa LRT Station.

This was my first hostel experience and I only checked in upon high recommendation from a friend. Dreamville meets my needs for a hostel in a few fronts – it is clean, comfortable, affordable and of course, very convenient. I like accommodation that is near LRT/metro stations and the best would be within walking distance to interchange stations.

Dreamville Hostel is actually on the first floor of a shophouse, two doors away from Hotel Seeds. It could be difficult to spot until a signboard is put up, which will be soon but not yet when I was there.

This hostel, which officially opened for business in early March this year, has three dormitories (one female, one male and one mixed) and two private rooms. The dormitories have three bunk beds each, which means they can accommodate six guests. As you can see, I got the upper bunk, which was also my first time sleeping on an upper bunk. I always take the lower bunk but it was full house that night.

I couldn’t take a photo of the room layout to respect the privacy of the other guests. One thing about staying in a dorm is that we have to be considerate of the other guests. I went to bed at 2.30am and woke up at 6am the next morning. Naturally, I had to be as quiet as I could. But then again, at RM35 +/- per night, one can’t complain about the lack of privacy or being woken up from sleep because of other guests’ schedule.

The private rooms with shared bathroom, on the other hand offer more privacy. These rooms are furnished with a Queen bed. They go for RM53 +/- per night. I have been told that since the hostel opened, it has been occupied nightly thanks to long-stay guests.

Upon check-in, each guest is assigned a bed and provided with a pillow, blanket, clean sheets and personal locker. The key to the locker is also attached to an access card, which is needed to unlock the main door of the hostel.

Accommodation comes with complimentary breakfast. Other amenities that are available for free are high-speed WiFi connectivity, use of the refrigerator, microwave oven, water boiler, water filter and reading materials. For entertainment, the television set streams movies from Netflix, Spotify and Popcorn Time, all at no extra charge.

During my time there, some of my friends felt like I was ‘stuck’ there. I didn’t think so. There are many food and beverage outlets nearby offering a wide range of cuisines, so meals were taken care of already. Some of these are 24-hour eateries. I also love that there are a self-service laundry mart and convenience stores in the area.

If you are here at the end of the week, that is a more happening time. There are the Saturday morning pasar tani (agricultural market) and Monday night market just around the corner.

Additionally, guests can opt to take up weekend activity packages arranged by the hostel, including city tours and hiking to Gunung Nuang.

But even if you decide to stay indoors, Dreamville Hostel is so comfortable, it is actually like your own home. I would definitely love to make this my base if I ever plan to be a tourist in Kuala Lumpur. After all, it is just five LRT stops to KLCC.

By the way, do you know why it is called Dreamville? That’s because the owners have named it after Dreamville, the camp grounds of Belgium’s TomorrowWorld where Tomorrowland, one of the biggest electronic music festivals in the world is held. What an interesting trivia.
