A rambling colonial building, it was built in 1926 from funds provided by the British Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John of Jerusalem in England for the benefit of ex-members of the Imperial Forces (1914-1918) and their dependents.
This gift was presented to Malaya as a token of the generosity of its inhabitants and to commemorate the unexampled co-operation between the Empire overseas and the Motherland during the Great War.
Today, this heritage building in Fraser’s Hill on the border of Selangor is known as Rumah Rehat Sri Berkat (Sri Berkat Rest House) and is managed by Tourism Selangor.
From the Victorian-English era, there is a fireplace and chimney in this double-storey building, albeit no longer in use.
Due to its architecture, Rumah Rehat Sri Berkat is a popular filming location for both domestic and international film makers. Apart from that, it is a top choice to host private gatherings, corporate meetings, family days and team building activities.
As the rooms are very spacious, as you can see from my photos, Rumah Rehat Sri Berkat can accommodate some fifty to sixty guests at a time.
Rooms categories available from the eight bedrooms are Suite, Executive and Deluxe. They go for RM120 to RM250 per night. These are rack rates and could go higher during super and triple peak seasons. Also, do remember that there is 6% Goods and Services Tax to be included.
The best time to visit would be from March to July during ‘spring’ and ‘summer’, when the flowers are in bloom, also birds and insects appear in droves.
The coldest temperature recorded at this rest house is 7 to 10 degrees Celsius during ‘winter’. This area is, after all, 1025 metres above sea level.
The state tourism office owns and manages three other tourism destinations. They are Chongkak Park & Resort, Hutan Lipur Kanching and Taman Rimba Komanwel.
