Living in Ipoh, I can’t deny that I was ignorant about the art and culture of Malaysia’s East Coast or even bothered to know about the way of life of the communities there.

This changed when I had the opportunity to visit Terengganu for the first time, a few years back. During that trip, I was introduced to many aspects of local people, from how they live to their culture and beliefs.

When I learned about the new SeniKome Péng Héng in First World Plaza, Resorts World Genting (RWG), I was ecstatic. Finally, the art and culture of the East Coast states are coming to the people! If visitors to Malaysia had found it difficult to make a trip to Terengganu, Kelantan or Pahang, let them have access to East Coast art and culture when they visit Genting Highlands which is located in Pahang, after all.

With the motto “Our Art, Our Home”, SeniKome Péng Héng which is the Pahang dialect for “Our art, Pahang”, is an art centre where exploration and inspiration meet. Besides showcasing art and culture, it also promotes local craft, fashion, traditional games, music, and of course, the food. Who can leave out the food; something that unites people?

SeniKome Péng Héng is not just a room for displays. It is a platform that fosters a creative environment through immersive programmes, such as wayang kulit, batik and wau, as well as get hands-on by participating in interactive games.

Guided tours are conducted three times a day, allowing visitors a greater insight into the exhibits and to better understand the cultural experience. At the end of your tour, you may want to take a piece of this eye-opening experience home, by conveniently shopping for a souvenir or two at the adjacent East Coast Art & Souvenir Shop.

This modest shop houses an extensive range of East Coast-themed art, craft and fashion. In addition, there is a café that serves signature East Coast cuisine such as Nasi Kerabu, Mee Siam, Keropok Lekor and Bubur Cha Cha.
