If given a choice to take the road, rail or plane to a destination, I naturally choose to fly. Although it could be pricier, it is at least time-saving and more comfortable.
My most recent trip saw me flying Malindo Air from Subang SkyPark Terminal (SZB) to Hat Yai International Airport (HDY).
To many Ipohites, Hat Yai is like their second home, due to its proximity. In fact, I know many who would drive north to Hat Yai for the weekend. Those who are more adventurous and have a bit of time to spare would take the train. It’s approximately 6+ hours for either mode of transport.
To fly from Subang SkyPark Terminal takes about 1.5 hours only. That’s many an hour saved, which was why I opted for flight. This is a new route served by Malindo Air. There are four direct flights a week from Subang SkyPark Terminal: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, at 0950 hrs.
Malindo Air also now flies direct from Penang International Airport (PEN) to Hat Yai International Airport (HDY) on the same days of the week, but at 1300 hrs. Malindo Air departs from HDY for PEN at 1050 hrs and for SZB at 1315 hrs.
Oh, by the way, if you fly to Hat Yai, do not worry that you will not be able to move around easily. There are many transportation options, from car rental as low as ฿1150 per day (x 0.128 to convert to Ringgit) to chartering a tuk tuk or taking the public transport in the form of songthaew, a type of pick-up trucks painted in different colours to serve various routes. It is ฿30 per person from Hat Yai International Airport to Hat Yai city centre, alighting at Kim Yong Market or Clock Tower.
Alternatively, arrange with your hotel for airport transfer. The fare is about ฿400 per vehicle, one way, depending on the distance between the airport and your hotel. Whatever the case, moving around in Hat Yai is very easy! Just make sure not to get fleeced by tuk tuks!
This trip was made possible thanks to Dexma Express, Malindo Air, 尚游 Premium Travel.
