This quaint little house turned show gallery is actually also the retail store of Johor’s artist community who goes by the brand, JOHO, the slang for Johor.
I understand that the birth of P.O.R.T. in Ipoh was inspired by JOHO, with the common believe that artists have to help themselves by creating a platform to promote the arts, and to explore entrepreneurship.
So far, JOHO has produced t-shirts, bags and home decors, with the creative minds coming up with the design and concept, and turned into physical products by local producers. Most of the time, recyclables are utilised.
The store’s best-selling item is the black & white top with 3/4 sleeves that goes by the code ’01′. It is retailed at RM55 each.
Since its establishment in early 2010, JOHO has grown from strength to strength. JOHO now organises four major events in its home state Johor, including an indie music festival and surfing competition.
