Located in the former US Information Service building in District 3 of Ho Chi Minh City, War Remnants Museum is one of the more popular museums in Vietnam.
When it was opened in 1975, it was named Exhibition House for US and Puppet Crimes and subsequently changed to Exhibition House for Crimes of War and Aggression. As one of the most popular museums in Vietnam, it receives half a million visitors annually, especially those who are interested in the histories of Vietnam War and Indochina War.
First to greet visitors is the artillery and armour collection within the compound of the museum. Exhibits include an F-5A fighter, M48 Patton tank and UH-1 "Huey" helicopter.
An on-going project at this museum is to create awareness on the consequences of Agent Orange used in the US war of aggression in Vietnam and to convey the message to help Agent Orange victims integrate into society.
Although many foreign visitors claim that this museum is biased towards Vietnam, viewing the graphic photos, one realises that there is no "right" in wars, only "wrong" all the way for all parties involved.
As a civilised society, it is our duty to ensure that history does not repeat itself.
