KLIA2
Upon landing at Kuala Lumpur International Airport returning from my Dutch vacation, I decided to hop over to KLIA2 to check it out, having read so much about it in the papers. The fare via KLIA Transit from KLIA is only RM2 for 2 minutes’ ride (less than 2km).

Travellers using KLIA Ekspres from KL Sentral to KLIA or KLIA2 pay the same adult fare of RM35 one way, or RM70 return. Child fares are RM15 and RM30 respectively.

In operation since early May, 2014, KLIA2 has replaced the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT), catering to three times as many passengers annually. Known as Malaysia’s Next Generation Hub, this international airport hub allows for seamless connectivity for both low-cost and full-service carriers in domestic and international sectors.

Built at a cost of more than RM4 billion, during my visit, only about 50% of retail space was occupied, although the terminal can accommodate up to 225 retail outlets.

Many of my friends have reported that it’s a long walk to the Departure Hall compared to LCCT. Surely it is but compared to KLIA, it isn’t so. At least, at KLIA2, there’s no need for an Aerotrain.

There are two hotels within KLIA2 grounds. One is CAPSULE by Container Hotel and the other, just opposite the bus pick-up point, is Tune Hotel. These are most convenient for travellers with long layovers.

Returning to Ipoh from KLIA2, I opted to take the direct airport shuttle, where tickets are sold from general bus counters. I had two options: Yoyo and Star Shuttle. I was not given the bus schedules, but was told the first available buses of the two companies when asked. One-way fare from KLIA2 (and KLIA) to Ipoh is RM42 for Star Shuttle and RM45 for Yoyo.
