For the fifth consecutive year since 2012, Wings of KKB, a 3-day bird-watching event was held last month in Kuala Kubu Bharu – Awana Hotel, Genting Highlands. This area is very popular with bird-watchers even on ordinary days. As a whole, Malaysia is ranked number 12 in the world in terms of bio-diversity.
Do you know that some 700 species of birds have been recorded in Malaysia? Sixty of these are endemic to the region. Therefore, it is no surprise that this event continues to attract more bird enthusiasts every year from around the world, from as far away as England.
Domestically, bird-watchers are increasing, which means that the awareness to conserve nature and wildlife to ensure the sustainability of eco-nature tourism products have been raised.
Due to the rich bird species population in the area, a visit to Kuala Kubu Bharu right up to Genting Highlands is an unforgettable experience for many bird-watching hobbyists.
As such, Wings of KKB, which attracted almost fifty teams this year, is an excellent event to promote Malaysia and Kuala Kubu Bharu in particular, to bird-watchers around the world. An international event such as Wings of KKB places us on the world map as a premier bird-watching destination.
As a participant of the Eat.Travel.Write Selangor International Culinary Adventure 3.0 delegation, I had the opportunity to test myself in identifying the birds that flew overhead me. When I see a bird, I see a bird, but don’t ask me what species it is.
It was good fun. Although I wouldn’t say that I am converted into a hobbyist overnight, at least I am now more aware of birds and sensitive towards their habitat.
By the way, 2017 is Visit Hulu Selangor Year so if you are into bird-watching, 2017 would be the best time to come here.
