During the recent Eat.Travel.Write Selangor International Culinary Adventure 3.0, we went searching for food in Kuala Kubu Bharu and came upon this stall at the local KKB food court.
Apparently, this stall is famous for their ‘asam pedas udang galah’. Look at these freshwater prawns. They are gigantic! I’ve not seen them this huge before, let alone eat them!
Price for the lunch set is from RM25 for a bowl of spicy prawns plus a drink, a plate of white rice, a dollop of greens, half piece of salted egg and a plate of condiment: Green Chili Sambal!
There are other dishes on the menu and they are sold à la carte. They include ikan pari (stingray), ikan kembong (mackerel), ikan siakap (seabass) and daging tetel (minced meat), all prepared asam pedas-style.
The Asam Pedas Udang Galah on the à la carte menu is sold from RM18 per claypot, depending on the size (and weight) of the prawns.
For me, one dish of asam pedas (sour + spicy) is sufficient. It would be great if they offer something else besides asam pedas on their menu.
Although I do not have any more details of the location or business hours of this stall, Dataran Kuala Kubu Bharu is easy to spot. If you come by this area, you MUST stop by for lunch.
