I transit Kuala Lumpur many times and each time, I get a headache looking for a night’s accommodation. Depending on how ‘rich’ I feel (very rarely!), I am not always willing to splurge on top class accommodations. Besides, because I depend on public transport, I try to look for somewhere that is near to the LRT and/or monorail station.
Recently, between trips, I needed to stay somewhere near the monorail station. My friend, Eeman, recommended Revopackers Beds and Bunks, which is just a few minutes walk to Imbi monorail station AND it is also just a few minutes walk to the Hang Tuah LRT station. Perfect!
Using Instant Street View, I found that it is just around the corner from Berjaya Times Square and as I needed to look for electronic accessories, it is also near to Low Yat Plaza. Perfecto!
So, without much else to consider, I made my reservation via Facebook private message. I have no qualms about putting up at a dorm, after my stay at Dreamville Hostel Kuala Lumpur earlier this year. Yes, hostels may not be everyone’s type of accommodation but then we get what we pay for and I accept that.
I was staying at Swiss Garden Hotel & Residences the night before, so after checking out, I took Uber over. The fare wasn’t even RM5 although there was a fare surge at the time and my driver took a wrong route.
Upon arrival, after climbing up two flights of stairs, I checked in and was handed a complimentary shoe bag. Didn’t have a need for it but I accepted anyway, as a souvenir.
As mentioned earlier, Revopackers was only my second experience in a Kuala Lumpur backpackers’ lodge, or hostel, if you will, although I wasn’t a backpacker. Anyway, comparing both my experiences, Revopackers has the convenience of an en suite bathroom (with water heater) for each room, which means, I only have to fight for bathroom time with five other people, or fewer.
Revopackers offers accommodation options of shared dorm rooms that accommodate up to six guests as well as private dorms for couples. They do have female dorms, so for those who worry about privacy, there is no need to.
All rooms are air-conditioned and each guest is allocated a locker to keep important stuff again. I like it that besides the power point and reading lamp available per bed, there is also a towel rail. This is very useful for long-stay guests.
Oh yes, there’s complimentary WiFi and free use of a internet-enabled desktop computer for guests. In addition, guests can enjoy a complimentary simple breakfast of bread and spread, before checking out or start the day exploring Kuala Lumpur.
For those who cook, the free access to the kitchen and refrigeration is most welcome. Cook for one or ten, it is your call.
Although I spent less than 24 hours in the area, I can tell that Revopackers is strategically located within walking distance from Jalan Alor and all the street food of Kuala Lumpur, and it is also just a short ride to restaurants and bars of Changkat. I actually spent the previous days enjoying Changkat’s F&B scene, so I know.
So, would I stay here again? Most definitely. In fact, now that I have personally tried Revopackers, this is where I will check for availability first before any other place when I need a night’s stay in Kuala Lumpur.
And the next time I am there, I’m gonna make sure that I get to enjoy the entertainment room!
