1. Coliseum Café
How embarrassing for me that I have only just discovered Coleseum Café Kuala Lumpur even though this establishment has been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the “Longest Operating Western Colonial-Themed Restaurant”. Established in 1921, the café is already 95 years old and is still going strong.
2. the bar
During my lunch at this iconic Coliseum Café & Grill Room (its proper name), I met a patron who told me that this has been his drinking hole for the past sixty years. Can you imagine that?
3. old newspaper clippings
Time has certainly stood still beyond the dark wood saloon doors and within the confines of the walls of this colonial building. Preserved since the early days, old furniture, newspaper cuttings, faded photographs and memorabilia on display help lend an air of old world charm to this modest diner.
4. the café
I soon found out that patrons return not only for that sense of nostalgia but for the best chicken chop in, perhaps. the whole of Kuala Lumpur, and its colonial heritage of Hainanese cuisine. Coliseum Café Kuala Lumpur reminded me very much of Ipoh’s FMS Bar and Restaurant, which is still waiting for a new lease of life.

As Pangung Bandaraya is just a short 8-minute stroll away, towards the direction of Sultan Abdul Samad Building, Coliseum Café Kuala Lumpur has come up with a special package for those who wish to catch MudKL, priced at only RM100 nett. The package includes a set meal special plus a ticket to MudKL (lunch or dinner show).
