The annual Festival Kenyir at Pengkalan Gawi, Lake Kenyir is back and it will be hosted next weekend for four days from 14th Sept.
I attended the event two years ago, and although I wish very much to be at Lake Kenyir this year, I am grounded due to a mishap and I can only sit this out. There is always next year, I console myself. Even so, physically, I may be in Ipoh but my mind and spirit are already in the East Coast.
Nevertheless, I have the tentative programme for Festival Kenyir 2017 with me. Do check out the many activities that have been lined up, and you will probably understand why this is the must-go event.
Due to the name, Kenyir, many people have the misconception that this is a water-based event. They can’t be more wrong. In fact, this festival is suitable for families of three generations as there are many different activities to suit all age groups.
Although Festival Kenyir 2017 is only held over four days, versus the long 7-day event in 2015 which I attended, going through the programme, I feel that there are even more activities lined up this year.
Among the many that have caught my eye are the hot air balloon, helicopter ride, river cruise, island hopping, community sports, water sports, auto fest, as well as cultural events such as silat kura-kura, dikir barat and traditional games.
For those who are not that adventurous, there are still many interesting activities to fill time, including shopping, eating, photo competition, colouring contest and stage performances. With over thirty items in the long list of programme, there is surely something for everyone.
Festival Kenyir 2017 is co-organised by the Terengganu State Government and Terengganu Tengah Development Authority (KETENGAH). Don’t miss this opportunity or there is a long wait till next year!
