Tourism Selangor, together with the state’s Kuala Selangor District Council, connects businesses from the state of Selangor and Japan in a B2B session at JATA Tourism EXPO 2017, which took place at Tokyo Big Sight in Japan last month.
The event provided participants who came from various travel agencies, government agencies and hoteliers to connect with travel industry associates.
“Selangor’s tourism industry still has a lot of potential for development and can be explored even further, particularly with our counterparts in Japan.
“In our quest to be an active and thriving tourism industry, we at Tourism Selangor and the Selangor government are supportive of all efforts by our local industry players to develop attractive products available at home, such as Eco Nature, Agro Tourism, Homestay, Heritage and Culture”, said Puan Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din, General Manager of Tourism Selangor.
“We are confident that Selangor’s tourism products would receive encouraging response from Japanese tourists as they always like things that are new and different.
“What we initiate together with the Kuala Selangor District Council and Hakuba Tourism Association is a powerful platform that can help drive tourist arrivals from Japan and getting them to go around Selangor and stay longer.
“Local businesses can capitalise on this inbound interest to grow the economy of the state in the long term,” she added.
Statistics have shown that there is an increase of 211.38% tourist arrivals from Japan in the first quarter of the year, from January – April 2016 (20,026) to January – April 2017 (62,356). While Malaysia is a popular destination for Japanese, Selangor may prove to be worthy of the attention for those who go for longer holidays.
This year, Tourism Selangor, the Kuala Selangor District Council and Hakuba Tourism Association took the opportunity to leverage on the expo to initiate the collaboration between two destinations, Selangor’s district of Kuala Selangor and Hakuba Goryu, Japan. The collaboration was an initiative to promote cooperation and expertise in tourism aspects between both cities.
The twin cities will collaborate to promote its firefly’s products, aimed to learn more about the preservation of firefly colonies in Kampung Kuantan, Kuala Selangor and to work hand in hand for the development of tourism between the two cities.
This cooperation is a continuous effort of JATA’s participation last year.
Tourism Selangor has also received an official visit from Hakuba Tourism Association on 8th of September, in Kuala Selangor. Counter-visits from Tourism Selangor and Kuala Selangor District Council will continue officially to Hakuba Goryu City after the participation of JATA 2017, which will be hosted by Hakuba Tourism Association.
The ongoing Discover Selangor campaign is a benchmark for Tourism Selangor in promoting new and old products that have not garnered much attention, thus highlighting and promoting them to the public as well as the tourism market, domestically and abroad.
The accompanying ‘Heart of Malaysia’ is used as a slogan to strengthen the current promotional campaign, specifically indicating Selangor state as a hub for transportation, development, investment, business, education, medical and others – where it all begins and centred around the state of Selangor.
