I have always wanted to explore Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) after my trip there for a Big Bad Wolf Sale many years ago.

However, I did not have the opportunity until I was a member of the delegation of Road to Agro Tourism #3 hosted by Malaysia Tourism Council (MTC). I am sure you can imagine my delight when I was informed of our itinerary!

It’s only appropriate that MAEPS is included in our agro tourism programme since it has so many agro-based experiences to offer visitors within its 130 hectares of land.

Did you know that MAEPS is one of Asia’s most comprehensive showground and exposition park facility, mainly to promote agro-based events and activities? This is the permanent venue for Southeast Asia’s leading agricultural show known as Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture & Agrotourism, or MAHA in short, held biennially.

Established by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2008 on land owned by Malaysian Research and Development Institute (MARDI), MAEPS has grown to become a world-class unique knowledge-rich destination.
Two years ago, the focus has been on MAEPS Agro Tourism Park to catch in on agro tourism, one of the fastest growing travel trends.

Gone viral on social media not too long ago, House of Kambing attracts two groups of visitors: those who love the animal and those who enjoy its meat. Me, I just love them like I love dogs and cats.

What a delight it was to be able to feed them. Obviously, there are feeding sessions throughout the day, so it’s important to be there at the scheduled time to participate in feeding.

Foodies who wish to indulge in a lamb meal may do so at the House of Kambing restaurant, where there are quite a number of lamb-based dishes, deliciously prepared from the meat supplied by this farm.

Stingless Bee (Kelulut) Mini Farm
Like most stingless bee farms, visitors to this Kelulut Farm at MAEPS are allowed to drink natural honey directly from the honeycomb.

I have visited a few stingless bee farms around the country in the past few years and drank the natural honey at each farm. However, I am unable to determine which is of better quality.

A trivia for you – there are 500 species of stingless bees in the world of which 38 are in Malaysia. At MAEPS, there are 9 species.
Herb Garden
A good part of MAEPS is filled with plants and trees, especially those that have medicinal value. Many of these are tagged with local, as well as scientific names.

Visiting as a group, a guided tour can be arranged, where a MAEPS staff will explain about the plants and what they are commonly used for. Additionally, there is the Vegetable Showground, an area allotted to vegetables only. Those who love their greens should visit.

Rice Info Centre
Rice is the staple food of Malaysia, so the Rice Info Centre of MAEPS is an important source of information for those who wish to learn about the crop, from planting to harvesting and processing.

Among the exhibits here are traditional tools used by paddy farmers in the old days and modern machinery currently used in the process of rice.

During our Road to Agro Tourism #3 visit, we were treated to lunch of Nasi Bendang sponsored by Q Caterer. While at the Rice Info Centre, of course, we were served rice.
G2G Animal Garden
I really enjoyed my time at G2G Animal Garden. As an animal lover, I had the chance to get close to many animals that are not household pets.

These were just some of the animal encounters that we had for that one afternoon. There were many more where their photos are not included here, such as ferret, British short-haired cat, Bearded Dragon, and a Bengal cat named Tiger.

G2G Animal Garden is highly recommended by me and totally worth your time and money. In fact, you need to allocate more time there to maximise the entrance fees. There are plenty of photo opportunities, so bring along your camera.
