If you have been following my blog, you would know that I spent ten days in Nepal recently. It was an epic Nepal backpacking-trekking trip, which saw me spending 7 days at the Manaslu Conservation Area.

So, I stayed a night in Kathmandu on arrival from Kuala Lumpur (or to be precise, Ipoh), before flying out to Manaslu, and another two nights in the capital city upon returning from my trekking expedition.

For my arrival, I stayed at Bouddha Boutique Hotel in Kathmandu’s Bouddha area. As you can see, despite this being a backpacking trip, I put up at a “hotel”, rather than a backpacker’s lodge.

In Kathmandu, no matter your choice of accommodation, two of the most popular areas to stay at are Bouddha and Thamel. Bouddha Boutique Hotel, in Bouddha, is within walking distance from Boudhanath, the famous stupa landmark in the country.

As soon as I checked in and settled down, I walked to Boudhanath, despite the heavy rain. If you don’t prefer walking, you can stay within the Bouddha stupa semi-circle area.

For my one night stay at Bouddha Boutique Hotel, I am unable to share many photos. However, you can still see how welcoming it is, with its stylish, artsy decor in warm tones. A comfortable stay is ensured, as the hotel is tucked slightly away from the chaotic hustle and bustle of Bouddha.

There are two room categories: Standard and Deluxe. Have a look at the well-appointed room that I was assigned. It has a contemporary design, with a glass panel that looks out from the bathroom to the bedroom.

While it is well furnished with modern-day amenities, including a safety box, hair dryer is not provided and has to be booked at the front office. The hotel also provided an umbrella for me to walk to Boudhanath, although both these items are very limited in quantity and available on first come, first served basis.

Breakfast is said to be “inclusive” but it is actually an add-on. The price is cheaper than stated on the à la carte menu, though. For example, you might have to pay only Rs. 500 for breakfast at the hotel coffee house, while it is listed as Rs. 700 on the menu. Have a look at the mega portion.

Pro tip: If you have made a reservation at Bouddha Boutique Hotel for your Nepal trip and the tourist visa application requires your hotel ward number, it is 99.
