Every time I share travel photos on social media, there would always be a few messages from friends who tell me that they are envious that I get to travel. The most recent incident was during my trip to Vietnam.
Truth be told, many do not realise the amount of effort we expend prior to the trip to be able to get away for a few days. That’s not all, we need a strong backup system to see that things continue to run efficiently when we are on the road. And in my case, I always ensure that I am reachable by WhatsApp no matter where I go.
To stay connected to my colleagues and clients is as important as my passport because I continue to work wherever I go. As a digital nomad, just because I do not sit at my desk doesn’t mean that I am on leave.
Therefore, one of the first things I do when planning an international trip is to book my travel WiFi router. My default company is Travel Recommends, for your information, and I have travelled with them this year to Taiwan, Nepal, Indonesia and just last month, to Vietnam, without issues.
Despite knowing that I would be well connected to the internet during my Vietnam trip, to travel with WiFi of my own gives me peace of mind that I have alternatives, should one connection fail, or is too weak for transmission of creative visuals. I like to have backup plans, which explains why I cannot pack light.
Having my personal pocket WiFi to keep me connected no matter where I go means not having to hunt for a café just to utilise its complimentary WiFi. Although I could always purchase a local SIM pack, I like that with a travel WiFi router, I can share my connection with my travel mates. Sharing is caring, after all.
By the way, rental of pocket WiFi through Travel Recommends for Vietnam is at a most affordable rate of RM9 per day. Each set comes with the WiFi router, charger, charging cable and manual, all neatly packed in a pouch.
Through personal experience, the WiFi can be shared by up to six devices simultaneously, with battery life of up to 8 hours. Obviously, the more devices that share the connection, the faster its battery depletes. For most of the places that I travelled to in Vietnam, the speed was 4G with unlimited bandwidth. It’s just a nifty device that is not bulky or weighty. What’s not to love about it?
