If you ever find yourself in the coastal city of Nha Trang in the east of Vietnam, perhaps you should allocate some time and budget for Vinpearl Land Nha Trang. Yes, Nha Trang is more than gorgeous, sandy beaches and Vinpearl Land is indeed a gem.
Opened in 2006 by Vingroup Corporation, this all-in-one family-centric theme park has six main areas: water park (wet area), indoor and outdoor games area, aquarium, performance stage and movie castle. The world-class park, which attracts some 12,000 tourists on an ordinary day, is part of a massive all-inclusive tourism development that is home to the 5-star Vinpearl Resort Nha Trang, shopping and F&B.
Vinpearl Land Nha Trang is actually located on Hon Tre Island of Khanh Hoa Province, which means accessibility is by crossing the Nha Trang Bay, either via cable car or speedboat.
Most tourists opt for the cable car as it is a major attraction of Vinpearl Land. At 3,320 metres, it is the longest sea cable car in the world. Going from Nha Trang mainland (Vinpearl Land Cable Car Terminal) to the park takes slightly more than ten minutes. While you’re up on the cable car at 100 metres above sea level, you are able to enjoy a fantastic, unobstructed view of all that’s going on below.
Do take note that the queue for cable car can go up to 2 long hours, with massive tourist groups from China and a majority of independent travellers from Russia. Therefore, it is advisable to visit during off peak season, and to get your Vinpearl Land tickets online, to avoid the queue at the ticketing counter.
There are three lanes to the cable car. Vinpearl Land hotel guests and VIP card holders have access to the express lanes. Once you are in the car, it’s a smooth ride all the way.
In Vinpearl Land, visitors are disallowed to bring along food and drinks, so be prepared to spend more money on them, especially when you are there during meal times, or if the weather is too hot.
During my visit, I was given a VND 100,000 discount voucher, but it was valid for food and beverages invoices above VND 200,000 at Cho Que, Chingu, Yummy Land and Happy Snacks counters only. I was informed that these vouchers were given to compensate for closure of some of the rides. I’m not sure how accurate this information is, though.
Availability of rides go according to morning or afternoon sessions, as common with other theme parks. The more popular ones, such as the Evolution Ride, with non-stop 360-degree rotations, including upside down, may have lengthy queues. Good thing is that ticket admission is inclusive of all attractions and rides.
Another highlight of Vinpearl Land is the 120-metre high Sky Wheel, a top ten highest Ferris Wheel in the world. It was not operating when I was there, unfortunately.
There’s also a zipline but getting on it is not easy as it depends on the luck of the draw. It’s no surprise how popular this zipline is. A new addition to Vinpearl Land, it opened in June and is the longest zipline in Vietnam at 888 metres in length, with the steepest gradient at 130 metres. Fancy “flying” at a speed of 100 km/h? Then you need to take this zipline.
Anyway, one full day is definitely insufficient to enjoy the park entirely. During the day, it looks like an ordinary amusement park. There are plenty of shows to catch at different time slots, from Dolphin Show to Animal Circus Show and Bird Show.
Talking about animals, Vinpearl Land Nha Trang boasts a “zoo”. Some of the majestic animals, for example, lions and tigers looked malnourished. Moreover, it was the wrong time of the day to visit these nocturnal animals.
During the night, at the Luminary Square, everything is lighted up similar to Disneyland. Vinpearl Land is then transformed into another attraction! I missed this awesome transformation. Thus, I would like to revisit for its night scene. Having spent a good part of the day here was more than enough for one visit, but seriously, it was inadequate to cover the entire park plus its attractions, particularly the venue is short of shaded areas to rest.
