Kedai Kopi Hai Peng
Kedai Kopi Hai Peng (Hai Peng Kopitiam) started life back in 1940. This coffee shop reminds me of Ipoh’s Nam Chau, the original Old Town Kopitiam.

The founder has since passed the business to his son. Although they have no intention to set up a franchise business, they are going to open a second outlet soon, on the ground floor of Mehram Hotel, which is just a stone’s throw away from this original shop.

Hai Peng is not only popular among locals, it also serves as a pit stop for road travellers on the way to Kuala Terengganu or other towns in the East Coast.

The food served here is typical of what one can find in a Hainanese coffee shop, including homemade tuna sandwiches, roti kaya, French toast and half boiled eggs.

However, the speciality here is the coffee. Though not white, the popularity of its traditional coffee is comparable to Ipoh’s white coffee. The coffee here is sold in the form of powder and sachets as well, marketed under the brand name of Sukiyang Coffee.

Just like Ipoh’s Nam Chow or even Sin Yoon Loong, if you are in Chukai, Kemaman, Kedai Kopi Hai Peng is a compulsory place to grab your shot of local coffee.
