Many years ago, Sekinchan used to be a small fishing village that people would not visit on purpose unless it was for business. However, times have changed and Sekinchan is now a tourist attraction.

Located in Selangor, less than 30km from Kuala Selangor, Sekinchan is also known as the ‘rice bowl of Selangor’, with an extremely high yield of paddy per season compared to other paddy cultivation areas in the country.

The word Sekinchan, after all, means “village suitable for plantation” in Chinese. Therefore, not only is paddy successfully planted here, other plants are viably grown as well. Paddy remains its top crop, though, with about 4,300 acres of land provided for it. That’s a large area of land that you won’t see the end of it.

Paddy is planted twice a year and it takes 110 days before it is harvested. Thus, based on the planting seasons, the best time to visit Sekinchan would be in June and December, just before the crop is harvested.
