When I found out that we would be visiting a butterfly park in Malacca, I was very excited. I really enjoyed my trip to the Kuala Lumpur butterfly park but that was quite a few years ago already and I have missed the graceful butterflies. Do you realise that butterflies only have a ten-day lifespan? That is seriously short!
The first butterfly aviary in Malacca Butterfly Sanctuary was opened to the public on Feb 1, 1991. The second was opened just last Christmas. Besides breeding butterflies, it is also a sanctuary for birds and reptiles. Yikes, I know!
During my visit, I had the opportunity to get close to an iguana, monster toad, and a snake. The park exhibits the largest collection of reptiles, including more than twenty different species of snakes.
In addition, there are also other animals, such as emus, scorpions, lizards, crocodiles and iguanas. I think that sooner or later, this butterfly park and reptile sanctuary will expand to be a zoo! I wouldn’t be surprised.
Malacca Butterfly and Reptile Sanctuary bred butterflies was especially timed to be released during our visit, so that we could see for ourselves how the procedure was conducted.
Check out my photos to see what visitors can expect from Malacca Butterfly Park and Reptile Sanctuary. Despite sharing so many photos, you’d have to make a visit to the park yourself as there are more than 400 insect specimens.
